We had a situation at a customer that caused the unread marks on the blackberry devices to be out of sync. Slow sync did not do the trick which caused us to further investigate. We found a field called “UnreadMarksCacheTime” in the user info document, in the user’s state database (usually under the BES\State folder) on the Blackberry server. If you clear this field and then do a sync again, the unread marks are reset on the Blackberry device. You can clear this field by just doing running the following agend on the user info document.
